THE FACTORS THAT THE ONITHSA PEOPLE
--------- LOOK AT ---------REFLECT UPON --------- CONSIDER ---------- WHEN MAKING MARRIAGE DECISIONS

Nicki my beautiful one,

i am NO AUTHORITY on this issue.

however, by and large,
generally,
i figure that the factors that the Onitsha peoples take into consideration when making marriage decisions include :

[1] THE FAMILY THAT THE PERSON IS MARRYING INTO.
this is a CRITICAL HURDLE that must be overcome
by both the man and the woman intending to marry.

the Onitsha peoples believe ---------

[ ......... all Onitsha peoples everywhere worldwide being Christians and therefore grounded/brought up/reared/nurtured from early childhood
in the Christian doctrine of one man one wife

ref : the HOLY BIBLE where IT IS WRITTEN that .........

" therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother
and be cleaved unto / joined to his wife
and the two shall become one ......... ]

--------- although a man lives with his wife in their own house,
marriage is NOT a thing BETWEEN ONLY TWO/2 PERSONS MARRYING i.e
marriage is NOT a thing BETWEEN ONLY the husband and wife

but rather that

marriage is something that

involves and impacts

......... over the life spans of everyone involved .........

on ;

(i) the SIBLING FAMILY UNITS OF THE 2 MARRYING PERSONS. i.e
the brothers of the man/husband, if any
the sisters of the man/husband, if any
the father of the man/husband
the mother of the man/husband

and

the brothers of the woman/wife, if any
the sisters of the woman/husband, if any
the father of the woman/husband
the mother of the man/husband

(ii) the EXTENDED FAMILY UNITS

and maybe sometimes also

(iii) THE ENTIRE CLANS OF THE 2 MARRYING PERSONS

(iv) THE VILLAGES OF THE 2 MARRYING PERSONS

(v) THE TOWNS OF THE 2 MARRYING PERSONS

Nicki, perhaps, i should also MAKE IT VERY CLEAR HERE that
the REALITY OF LIFE
the FACTS OF LIFE
are that

different famillies are at

DIFFERENT SOCIAL LEVELS
DIFFERENT ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL LEVELS
DIFFERENT LEVELS OF EDUCATION
DIFFERENT LEVELS OF SUBSTANCE, etc

and that as ALL THESE SCALES OF SOCIETY
can be coded into THREE/3 LEVELS, viz, for example :

HIGH SOCIAL LEVEL
MIDDLE SOCIAL LEVEL
LOW SOCIAL LEVEL

HIGH ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL LEVEL
MIDDLE ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL LEVEL
LOW ECONOMIC/FINANCIAL LEVEL

HIGH LEVEL OF EDUCATION
MIDDLE LEVEL OF EDUCATION
LOW LEVEL OF EDUCATION

HIGH LEVEL OF SUBSTANCE
MIDDLE LEVEL OF SUBSTANCE
LOW LEVEL OF SUBSTANCE, etc

THEREFORE
the issues/factors that

EACH INDIVIDUAL FAMILY
INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF THE FAMILLIES

will consider will be

AFFECTED / IMPACTED UPON / TAINTED / COLOURED BY

THE REALITY OF THEIR SOCIAL LEVEL
and
THEIR OWN PERCEPTIONS
( ......... right or wrong ......... )
AS TO THE REALITY OF THEIR SOCIAL LEVEL
